TECHNICAL WRITING

Over 30 years experience writing manuals and training Service Engineers from all over the world (24 of these on high-end colour scanners and imaging systems used by the printing industry), has enabled Crystal Technical to develop an approach which presents User and Technical information in a most economical and easy-to-use form.

Our association with many other experienced technical writers enables us to offer a comprehensive authoring service.

We offer a personalised service to our clients, working with most documentation and graphics software on both PC and Macintosh, and specialise in using Adobe FrameMaker to allow unstructured or structured authoring and to provide for easy reconfiguration and updating of both small and complex manuals.

We are currently phasing in the adoption of Topic-Based Authoring using the latest generation application software. This provides complete flexibility and stability of content between style variants and levels of manuals, and simplifies the creation of associated on-line help systems.

To supplement our main creation software, we have expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat. The standard Microsoft Office applications and CoralDraw can also be used if required. On-line documentation and "help" files can be created using RoboHelp.

House styles and structures can be adopted where specified.

Finished Documents are normally supplied as fully hyper-linked PDF files and will also be supplied as generic source files, structured files, or in printed form if requested.

All manuals are written with the end-user in mind.

User Manuals are normally styled to maintain an introductory simplicity, with fully indexed detail available should it be needed. Ideally the use of  "active English" (you, etc.) is employed where possible.

The structure and content of Technical Manuals is based on the recognition of the need for accurate details and concise procedures. The authoring style is unambiguous and has proved to be invaluable when training engineers of all nationalities and skill levels.

Parts Catalogues are normally directly referenced from a clients CAD files, enabling easy updating when required.
