TECHNICAL WRITING

Over 35 years experience writing manuals and training Service Engineers from all over the world (24 of these on high-end colour scanners and imaging systems used by the printing industry), has enabled Crystal Technical to develop an approach which presents User and Technical information in a most economical and easy-to-use form.

Our association with many other experienced technical writers enables us to offer a comprehensive authoring service.

We offer a personalised service to our clients, working with several major documentation and graphics software packages.

With over 25 years expertise in using Adobe FrameMaker to create unstructured or structured authoring and to provide for easy reconfiguration and updating of both small and complex manuals, until recently this was our authoring software of choice However, we have now switched to using Flare for all our major projects. The use of Microsoft Office type applications and other specialist authoring packages can also be considered if required.

The adoption of Flare allows us to offer Topic-Based Authoring using the latest generation application software. This provides complete flexibility and stability of content between, style variants and levels of manuals, and allows deliverables in many formats from pdf to direct online help styles.

To supplement our main creation software, we have expertise in Adobe Photoshop and various other graphics packages.

House styles and structures can be adopted where specified.

Finished Documents are normally supplied as fully hyper-linked PDF files and will also be supplied as generic source files, structured files, or in printed form if requested. E-books or Flip Books can be provided

All manuals are written keeping the end-user in mind.

User Manuals are normally styled to maintain an introductory simplicity, with fully indexed detail available should it be needed. Ideally the use of  "active English" (you, etc.) is employed where possible.

The structure and content of Technical Manuals is based on the recognition of the need for accurate details and concise procedures. The authoring style is unambiguous and has proved to be invaluable when training engineers of all nationalities and skill levels.

Parts Catalogues are normally directly referenced from a clients CAD files, enabling easy updating when required.
